On March 15, 2024, 31-year-old Black / African American male Mark Miles Jr. was fatally shot inside a residence on the far east side of Indianapolis, Indiana. Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene in the 3600 block of Ireland Drive, near the intersection of East 38th Street and North Post Road, shortly after 11:00 p.m. following reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, emergency responders located the victim suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead a short time later.
The investigation revealed that the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute involving the victim and his younger brother. Witnesses and family members reported that the suspect had been behaving erratically prior to the violence, making strange statements such as claiming he was God and threatening his mother. Mark Miles Jr. had reportedly attempted to calm his brother down during the altercation when the situation escalated, resulting in the fatal gunfire.
Police quickly identified the suspect as 18-year-old Terry Davis Jr., the brother of the deceased. Approximately two hours after the shooting, law enforcement officers located Davis hiding in the bed of a pickup truck about a mile away from the crime scene. He was taken into custody without further incident. On March 20, 2024, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office formally charged Davis with murder. He was held in the Marion County Jail as the legal proceedings commenced.
