In the autumn of 2021, a young man's life was tragically cut short in a place he had only recently begun to call home. Dazmond Morgan, a 26-year-old male, had moved to Indianapolis from Kentucky just a few months prior, seeking a fresh start and to better his life. On the evening of Tuesday, October 19, 2021, he was found with a gunshot wound in a parking lot on the campus of the University of Indianapolis.
Though he was not a student, his family believes he was on campus to visit a female friend.
Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 9:30 p.m., where they discovered Morgan in the parking lot near a freshman dormitory. He was rushed to Eskenazi Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, in conjunction with the University of Indianapolis Police, launched a homicide investigation into his death.
In the days and weeks that followed, Dazmond's family pleaded with the public for any information that could lead to the person or persons responsible for his murder. They described him as a loving father and a talented skateboarder, and they distributed flyers in the area, desperate for answers and for justice.
