On July 22, 2024, an 18-year-old man named Gabriel Pedraza was killed in a shooting on the near southeast side of Indianapolis. The incident occurred early Monday morning when the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) received a 911 call around 12:30 a.m., although no one spoke on the other end of the call. Officers traced the call to the 1400 block of Nelson Avenue and were alerted by a neighbor that someone may have been shot in a nearby house.
