Oluwadayomi Epenusi, a 66-year-old male, had recently relocated to Indianapolis from Nigeria, where he had served as a pastor. His new life in the United States was tragically cut short one early Saturday morning at an apartment complex situated near 10th Street and I-465 on the city's west side. The quiet of the morning was shattered by the sound of approximately 15 gunshots, as reported by a neighbor who promptly called 911. It is believed the violence erupted during a robbery attempt.
Friends and acquaintances suggested that Epenusi was targeted for his purse, and he was shot when he refused to surrender it.
After being shot, the gravely wounded Epenusi managed to make his way back to his apartment. His roommate, upon discovering him bleeding, quickly drove him to Eskenazi Hospital. Tragically, due to the severity of his injuries, Epenusi was unable to communicate what had transpired before he succumbed to his wounds and passed away. He had been working diligently to bring his children to the United States, and they had just recently obtained their visas.
In the immediate aftermath of the fatal shooting, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation and a manhunt for the person or persons responsible for Oluwadayomi Epenusi's death. However, there have been no subsequent public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in connection with the case. The investigation into his murder remains unresolved, and the perpetrator has not been brought to justice.
