In the early morning hours of April 28, 2022, the life of 27-year-old Kenuel Thompson, a Black male, was tragically cut short in a shooting outside an Indianapolis convenience store. The incident occurred at approximately 2:15 a.m. in the parking lot of the Kessler Food Mart in the 2900 block of West Kessler Boulevard North Drive. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a report of a person shot and discovered Thompson inside a car, where he was pronounced dead at the
scene. The Marion County Coroner's Office later confirmed that his death was the result of a gunshot wound.
Inside the food mart, another man was found with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Investigators believe that the shooting was a targeted event and that shots were fired into the vehicle Thompson occupied. Despite their efforts, which included canvassing the area for surveillance footage, police have not yet identified any suspects, and the case remains unsolved.
IMPD homicide detectives have continued to seek information from the public to help solve the murder of Kenuel Thompson. He was remembered by his loved ones as a beloved son, brother, and uncle. Thompson had a passion for singing and was pursuing a degree in electrical engineering.
