In the early evening of June 9, 2022, the life of 28-year-old Dionte Shaquille Williams was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting at the Laurel Woods Apartments in South Bend, Indiana. The South Bend Police Department responded to reports of gunfire around 6:40 p.m. and discovered Williams deceased at the scene. His death was quickly ruled a homicide, launching an ongoing investigation into the circumstances that led to the violent encounter.
The investigation has revealed that a
suspect, described as a Black male wearing dark clothing, was seen fleeing the apartment building shortly after the shots were fired. This individual was reportedly armed and escaped the area in a white car driven by a white female. Despite this description and the release of surveillance video showing Williams just moments before the shooting, no arrests have been made in the case, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
The community and his family, who remembered him fondly during funeral services, have been left seeking answers and justice for Williams. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward to assist the South Bend Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit in their investigation.
