In the summer of 2015, a young man's life was tragically cut short on the streets of South Bend, Indiana. Jerry Wright, a 21-year-old male, was known for his outgoing personality and was a devoted father to his young daughter. A graduate of Clay High School, he was often seen as a stylish individual who enjoyed basketball and spending time with his friends and family.
On the evening of June 9, 2015, on the 2400 block of Frederickson Street, an argument erupted between Jerry Wright and
another young man, 19-year-old Marqwan Beserra. The verbal dispute quickly escalated to a fatal encounter. Beserra produced a firearm and shot Wright multiple times. Reports indicate that Jerry Wright was unarmed during the confrontation. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene, leaving behind his parents, siblings, and his beloved daughter.
Following the shooting, Marqwan Beserra fled the state, prompting a three-month search by law enforcement. He was eventually located and apprehended in Georgia by U.S. Marshals. Beserra was extradited back to Indiana to face charges for the death of Jerry Wright. In April 2016, a jury found Marqwan Beserra guilty of murder. The following month, he was sentenced to 60 years in prison for the senseless act of violence that ended a young father's life.
