He was attending a block party in the 1900 block of Missouri Street in his hometown of Gary, Indiana, when a mass shooting occurred.

When police arrived at the chaotic scene, they discovered multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds. Laurance Magnum, along with 20-year-old Ashanti Brown of Olympia Fields, Illinois, and 26-year-old Marquise Hall of Lafayette, Indiana, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Lake County Coroner's Office. The shooting also left seven other individuals wounded. The incident sent shockwaves through the community, with many expressing grief and outrage over the senseless loss of young lives.
