In the late morning of a Saturday in Gary, Indiana, a discovery was made that would forever alter the lives of one family. On March 18, 2017, the body of 24-year-old Jason D. Harris, a Black male, was found in the backyard of a vacant home in the 400 block of Ellsworth Street. Officers were dispatched to the scene around 9:45 a.m. after a report of a man lying face-down in the yard.
Upon their arrival, authorities found that Harris had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The Lake County Coroner's office was called, and he was officially pronounced dead at 10:38 a.m. His death was subsequently ruled a homicide, prompting an investigation by the Gary Police Department. Despite their efforts, the investigation into who was responsible for the death of Jason D. Harris has been met with challenges. As of now, the case remains open, and no arrests have been made, nor have any suspects been publicly identified. Authorities continue to ask for anyone with information to come forward to help bring closure to his family.
