In the early morning hours of April 8, 2020, the body of 27-year-old Anthony Syler was discovered in an alley in Gary, Indiana. A resident of the city, Syler was found in an alley to the east of the 700 block of Cleveland Street at approximately 7:50 a.m. An investigation into his death determined that he had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

The investigation into Syler's death led authorities to Erin Sowa, a 24-year-old woman from the neighboring town of Highland, Indiana. So ...
