In the summer of 2015, the life of 16-year-old Rashaud Lewis was tragically cut short in his hometown of Gary, Indiana. On the evening of Monday, June 22nd, shots rang out in the 2300 block of Harrison Street. Responders found Rashaud with a gunshot wound and transported him to Northlake Methodist Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at 5:21 p.m.
The Lake County Coroner's Office officially ruled his death a homicide.
Rashaud, who resided on West 22nd Avenue, was just a short distance from where the fatal shooting occurred. The incident took place in a housing complex located near the Roosevelt College and Career Academy. In the immediate aftermath, the Gary Police Department began their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young man's death.
Despite the passage of time, publically available information indicates that no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Rashaud Lewis. The case remains an open investigation as authorities continue to seek information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of any suspects involved. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young life, with funeral services held at the Beth Eden Church in Gary.
