In the early morning hours of July 5, 2022, a family disturbance on the east side of Indianapolis escalated into a fatal shooting, claiming the life of 26-year-old Anthony Higginson Jr. The incident unfolded around 6:20 a.m. in the 3600 block of North Grant Avenue, near the intersection of North Sherman Drive and East 36th Street. When officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered two men who had sustained gunshot wounds.
Both men
were transported to a local hospital, with Higginson listed in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. The second man, identified as 30-year-old Joshua Peyton, was seriously wounded but survived. Investigators determined that the shooting stemmed from an argument and a physical altercation between the two men, during which shots were fired.
Following an investigation into the incident, the surviving victim, Joshua Peyton, was identified as the suspect in Higginson's death. On July 8, 2022, IMPD announced that Peyton had been arrested and charged with murder. The confrontation that led to the deadly shooting was described by police as a family disturbance.
