Derrick Curtis Perry II, a 32-year-old male, was fatally shot on Thursday, January 4, 2024, in an apartment building on the northeast side of Indianapolis. The incident occurred near 82nd Street and Allisonville Road.
Following the shooting, a woman who knew Perry was taken into custody by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. However, she was later released as the investigation continued.
News reports indicated that the woman who shot and killed her boyfriend, identified as Derrick Curtis Perry II, claimed to have endured years of abuse from him.
Prior to his death, Derrick Curtis Perry II had a history of legal issues. In May 2022, he was arrested in Warsaw, Indiana, for allegedly threatening a woman with a gun. The charges in that case included intimidation with a deadly weapon, pointing a firearm, theft, and invasion of privacy. The woman in that incident reported to police that Perry was also facing a felony charge in Marion County for stealing another one of her guns. A no-contact order had been issued against him in Marion Superior Court in July 2021 related to a charge of invasion of privacy involving the same woman.
