On a summer afternoon in Indianapolis, Indiana, on July 16, 2018, a meeting at a gas station on the east side turned fatal for 20-year-old Jeshon Cameron. Cameron, a resident of Fishers, had accompanied a witness to the 2900 block of North Mitthoeffer Road for a prearranged meeting with a man named Gamron Tedford. While Cameron sat in the front passenger seat of a vehicle, Tedford arrived and entered the back seat.
Shortly after entering the car, Tedford brandished a handgun and said,
“Don't move. You know what this is.” When Jeshon Cameron began to move, Tedford fired multiple shots at close range, striking him seven times. The driver of the vehicle, who witnessed the shooting, fled as the gunshots rang out. Cameron was left with multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. In the aftermath, the vehicle with Cameron inside rolled forward and came to a stop in front of the gas station store.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to Gamron Tedford as the suspect. Surveillance video from the gas station captured Tedford fleeing the scene in the same car that later dropped him off at a local hospital with gunshot wounds to his leg and arm. Investigators also discovered cell phone communications between Tedford and the witness which confirmed their plan to meet at the gas station. Based on the evidence, police arrested the 19-year-old Tedford and charged him with murder.
In April 2021, after a three-day trial, a jury found Gamron Tedford guilty of the murder of Jeshon Cameron. He was subsequently sentenced to 50 years in the Indiana Department of Correction for the crime. The family of Jeshon Cameron, a graduate of Warren Central High School, remembered him as a loving, independent, and hardworking young man whose life was tragically cut short.
