On the morning of September 15, 2022, police officers in Indianapolis, Indiana, were dispatched to a residence on the city’s east side following a request for a welfare check. The call led authorities to the 7300 block of Taos Trail, a neighborhood situated southeast of South Shadeland Avenue and East Washington Street. Upon arriving at the scene around 6:15 a.m., first responders discovered the body of a 32-year-old White male, identified as Samuel Lewis Reeder, who was unresponsive.
Personnel from the Indianapolis Fire Department pronounced him dead at the scene, and the incident was immediately treated as a homicide investigation.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office later confirmed that Reeder had sustained at least one fatal gunshot wound. Detectives from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department launched an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, canvassing the area for potential witnesses or evidence. Outside of his employment, he was an aspiring musician who performed and wrote music under the stage name 'Sam Ruthless Reeder.' Those close to him described him as a tender-hearted individual who often projected a tough exterior but was deeply loved by his community. A memorial service was held in his honor shortly after his passing, where family members gathered to mourn his unexpected loss.
Despite the efforts of homicide detectives, the case has not yielded any public announcements regarding suspects or persons of interest.
