In the early evening of October 4, 2022, a sense of unease settled over a neighborhood on the near northeast side of Indianapolis. Just after 6 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet near the intersection of 38th Street and Tacoma Avenue. When officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrived, they discovered 21-year-old Dwight Berryhill, a Black male, critically wounded inside a white Chevy.
