In the early morning hours of a chilly Monday in November 2022, the life of 23-year-old Day’eon Mallory was tragically cut short on the northeast side of Indianapolis. First responders were dispatched to the 3800 block of North Temple Avenue following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered Mallory in a grassy area, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Despite the immediate medical attention he received, his injuries proved fatal.
For many months, the case remained under investigation, one of the many unsolved homicides in the city. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department detectives worked diligently to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. The turning point in the investigation came in June 2024, when authorities announced a significant breakthrough.
After a thorough investigation, homicide detectives identified 31-year-old Dante Robinson as the primary suspect in Mallory's death. Prosecutors filed a murder charge against Robinson, and he was subsequently taken into custody without incident, nearly a year and a half after the shooting. The arrest brought a sense of hope for justice to Mallory's family and the community.
