On November 29, 2022, 52-year-old Joseph Coulson was killed following a shooting incident in Cumberland, a town situated on the eastern border of Indianapolis, Indiana. The violence occurred in the early morning hours at the Elm Tree Park Apartments, a residential complex where officers from the Cumberland Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to investigate reports of a domestic disturbance that had escalated into gunfire.
Upon their arrival, first responders discovered Coulson suffering from a gunshot wound. He was treated at the scene and subsequently rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation revealed that the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute involving members of Coulson's family. Witnesses and family members reported to local news outlets that the incident began at a nearby residence where the ex-boyfriend of Coulson’s stepdaughter had appeared and threatened her with a firearm. Seeking safety, the woman fled to Coulson's apartment for assistance. It was during this confrontation that the gunman allegedly opened fire, striking Coulson.
