On January 30, 2023, a fatal shooting occurred at the Carlton Apartments located in the 2500 block of Plaza Drive on Indianapolis’ northwest side. The incident happened shortly before 1 p.m., with multiple people calling to report shots fired in the area.

When police arrived, they found 20-year-old Brian Ward Jr. outside a home next to a vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, Ward was pronounced dead at the scene.
