Deputy Sheriff Oland Collins, aged 21, tragically lost his life on October 3, 1911, in Gibson Station, Virginia. He was serving with the Bell County Sheriff's Department in Kentucky. On that fateful day, Deputy Collins, along with his brother Deputy Sam Collins, the Bell County sheriff, and the Lee County sheriff, went to Gibson Station to serve a warrant on a woman who was wanted as a witness in a murder trial.
