Sergeant Elton B. Hummer, a 30-year-old officer with the Alexandria Police Department, tragically lost his life on August 18, 1928. He was shot and killed in front of 224 South Alfred Street in the Old Town section of Alexandria, Virginia. The incident occurred while he was on duty, and his weapon was found near his hand when neighbors reached him.
