In the late hours of a Thursday evening in Alexandria, Virginia, the life of 27-year-old Julio Caesar Urrutia-Erazo was tragically cut short in a senseless act of violence. On June 19, 2014, Urrutia-Erazo was in the 3800 block of Russell Road when he and his companions were confronted by a group of men. These individuals, members of the notorious MS-13 gang, were actively seeking out rivals. They flashed gang signs and aggressively questioned Urrutia-Erazo and his friends about their own gang affiliations. In the midst of this tense exchange, one of the gang members, Jesus Alejandro Chavez, who had been released from prison just eight days prior, pulled out a firearm. At point-blank range, he fired a single, fatal shot into Urrutia-Erazo's neck. Emergency services arrived to find Urrutia-Erazo suffering from the grave gunshot wound. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he fought for his life for two days before succumbing to his injuries on June 21, 2014.
The investigation into the murder of the Hispanic male led authorities to unravel a larger web of violent crime orchestrated by a clique of MS-13 known as the 'Park View Locos Salvatruchas.'
