In the quiet evening of December 5, 2022, the life of 26-year-old Jordan Summers was tragically cut short on a sidewalk in the 7900 block of Audubon Avenue in Alexandria, Virginia. A concerned member of the community discovered the young Black man lying injured and immediately alerted the authorities. When police and emergency responders arrived at approximately 8:02 p.m., they found Summers suffering from trauma to his upper body. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation into the death of the Lorton resident quickly pointed towards a homicide, as community members reported hearing what sounded like gunshots shortly before Summers was found. An autopsy later confirmed that he had sustained at least one gunshot wound. Detectives from the Major Crimes, Cyber and Forensics Bureau began the arduous process of piecing together the events of that fateful night, meticulously conducting interviews, gathering video surveillance from the area, and processing evidence left at the scene.
For two months, the investigation continued as law enforcement worked to identify a suspect. A breakthrough came through the analysis of surveillance footage and forensic evidence, which ultimately led detectives to 22-year-old Malik Johnson of Alexandria. On February 10, 2023, members of the Fairfax County Police Department's Fugitive Track and Apprehension Squad took Johnson into custody. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Johnson was held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond. While an arrest has been made, authorities have indicated that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Jordan Summers's death remains active as they seek to uncover further details.
