A Saturday afternoon workout at the Onelife Fitness gym in Alexandria, Virginia, turned into a scene of violence and tragedy. On June 29, 2024, 29-year-old Joshua Wilcox, a resident of Maryland, was shot and killed inside the gym located at 305 Hooffs Run Drive. The incident unfolded at approximately 4:00 p.m., causing chaos among the nearly 60 people who were present at the time.
Alexandria police officers were dispatched to the location following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered two men with gunshot wounds. Both Wilcox and the shooter were transported to area hospitals in life-threatening condition. Despite medical efforts, Joshua Wilcox succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead later that evening.
The investigation quickly identified the gunman as 30-year-old Charles Hewitt of Washington, D.C. Authorities reported that Hewitt and Wilcox were acquainted, though the nature of their relationship and the motive for the shooting have not been publicly disclosed. After shooting Wilcox, Hewitt turned the gun on himself, inflicting a fatal wound. He also died from his injuries later that night. The case was determined to be a murder-suicide, and the investigation remains ongoing.
