On February 28, 1973, a tragic incident unfolded in Fairfax, Virginia, when 36-year-old Harry McMillan fatally shot his estranged wife, 21-year-old Delores S. McMillan; his mother-in-law, 53-year-old Ruth M. Sherman; and his 2-year-old son, William McMillan, before committing suicide in his rented cabin at 8811 Lee Highway.
