A night of violence in Newark, New Jersey, on July 1, 2017, claimed the life of 20-year-old Darnell Holmes. The shooting, which erupted near Lincoln Park, also resulted in the death of 26-year-old Nigel Farrell of East Orange and left two other men, aged 25 and 28, with non-life-threatening injuries. Holmes, a resident of Newark, was pronounced dead at University Hospital following the incident that occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. in the vicinity of 12 Pennsylvania Avenue.
