In the quiet, early morning hours of June 24, 2022, a violent intrusion shattered the peace of a Fairfax, Virginia home. Gret Glyer, a 32-year-old male, was shot and killed as he slept in his bed. His wife, Heather Glyer, was lying beside him and was awakened by a loud noise. She made a frantic 911 call just before 3 a.m., telling dispatchers she believed her husband had been shot.
When police arrived at the home on Bolton Village Court, they found a back door ajar and discovered Glyer deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. The couple's two young children were also in the house at the time but were unharmed. The murder was the first to occur in the city of Fairfax in over a decade.
The investigation quickly focused on an acquaintance of the family. Five days after the shooting, on June 29, police arrested 33-year-old Joshua Danehower of Arlington. He was taken into custody at Dulles International Airport, where he was employed. Authorities later revealed that Danehower was an ex-boyfriend of Heather Glyer and had reportedly been trying to reconnect with her. Investigators were led to Danehower after a tipster suggested they look into him as a possible suspect. Danehower was charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was subsequently indicted by a grand jury on felony charges for murder and the use of a firearm. Court documents revealed the brutal nature of the crime, stating that Glyer had been shot 10 times. According to reports from his bail hearing, Danehower appeared to be treating the grave situation with a startling lack of seriousness. Glyer was known as the founder and CEO of DonorSee, a nonprofit organization designed to help people in need worldwide.
