Frankie Lynn Betterton, a 43-year-old deputy sheriff from Danville, Virginia, tragically lost his life on May 17, 2002. Deputy Betterton was conducting a traffic stop on US Highway 58 near Danville when the incident occurred. At approximately 2:30 p.m., he had pulled over two vehicles. After allowing the driver of one vehicle to leave, he had the male driver of the second vehicle sit in his patrol car.
