In the late evening hours of June 28, 2023, a dispute in Danville, Virginia, tragically cut short the life of 27-year-old Andreiu Dreu' Quiell Reuquon Barley. The Black / African American male was fatally shot following an altercation in the 200 block of Southland Drive. The incident, which unfolded around 10:30 p.m., concluded a confrontation that escalated into an exchange of gunfire.
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered Barley suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention but succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival. The subsequent investigation revealed that Barley had been involved in a dispute with a 17-year-old male acquaintance. It is reported that Barley initiated the shootout that ultimately led to his own death.
The 17-year-old involved in the incident was located by authorities in a vehicle at the scene. He was later charged with several offenses, including underage possession of a firearm, discharging a firearm within city limits, and reckless handling of a firearm. Law enforcement officials have indicated that they are not searching for any other individuals in connection with this case. In the wake of the event, the Danville Police Department organized a H.E.A.R.T. Walk in the neighborhood to support the community and provide resources to those affected by the violence.
