In the spring of 2022, a fatal shooting in Danville, Virginia, cut short the life of 29-year-old Brandon Alexander Gore. On the morning of May 17, police responded to a call about a man shot at an apartment complex on Richmond Boulevard. There, in the breezeway of a building, they found Gore suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.
The immediate investigation pointed to 24-year-old Andrew Jovanni Menjivar as a person of interest.
Investigators quickly determined that the shooting was not a random act, as Gore and Menjivar were acquaintances. Following the incident, Menjivar was believed to have fled the scene on foot, still in possession of a handgun and wearing a white tank top.
A manhunt for Menjivar ensued, with law enforcement agencies believing he might be in the Winston-Salem or Greensboro areas of North Carolina, where he had known associations and a reported address. The search involved a collaborative effort between the Danville Police Department and law enforcement in Winston-Salem and Greensboro. The public was alerted that Menjivar could still be armed and were advised not to confront him directly but to contact the authorities.
Three days after the shooting, on May 20, Andrew Jovanni Menjivar was located and arrested in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was initially charged with second-degree murder for the death of Brandon Gore and faced extradition back to Danville to stand trial. In September 2023, Menjivar pleaded guilty to amended charges of voluntary manslaughter, discharging a firearm in public resulting in injury, and possession of a firearm by a nonviolent felon.
