In the early morning hours of July 26, 2019, the life of 30-year-old Keenan Cunningham was tragically cut short in Danville, Virginia. A Black male, Cunningham was discovered inside his truck on Hughes Street after police responded to a call of shots fired around 3:30 a.m. He was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was subsequently taken to the Western District Medical Examiner's Office in Roanoke for an autopsy.
The investigation into Cunningham's death moved swiftly, leading to an arrest later that same day. Antonio T-Quan Terry, a 29-year-old from Danville, was taken into custody without incident. Initially, Terry was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. As the investigation progressed, more serious charges were brought against him.
A Danville Grand Jury handed down indictments against Terry for first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and five counts of maliciously shooting at an occupied vehicle. Following the indictments, Terry was held without bond in the Martinsville City Jail. Authorities confirmed that they were not seeking any other suspects in connection with Keenan Cunningham's murder.
