In the winter of 2017, the life of Antwan Duval Tucker Jr., a 25-year-old Black male from Danville, Virginia, was tragically cut short. On the night of Friday, December 22nd, just before 11 p.m., the Danville Police Department received calls reporting shots fired on Ross Street. Shortly thereafter, they were notified that a man, later identified as Tucker, had arrived at the emergency room of SOVAH Health with a gunshot wound to his head.
Due to the severity of his injury, Tucker was
transferred to Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for more advanced care. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Antwan Duval Tucker Jr. succumbed to his injuries in the early morning hours of Saturday, December 23, 2017. His death was quickly ruled a homicide, marking the 13th murder in the city of Danville that year and prompting an intensive investigation by local law enforcement.
The subsequent investigation into Tucker's death led authorities to identify several individuals believed to be involved in the shooting. The Danville Police Department sought the public's help in locating 23-year-old Dashaun Lamar Trent, who was wanted on charges of attempted murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Trent was described as being armed and dangerous. Another person of interest, Tredarius Jameriquan Keene, age 22, was also wanted in connection with the homicide and faced a charge for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
An arrest was made in the case when 19-year-old K’Darius Taequan West was apprehended in Greensboro, North Carolina. West was charged with three counts of attempted malicious wounding related to the incident that led to Tucker's death. The ongoing investigation highlighted the police department's commitment to bringing all those responsible for the violence on Ross Street to justice. Antwan Tucker, born on December 19, 1992, was a father to a daughter and a son to Antwan Tucker Sr. and Terria Poole.
