In the late hours of a Sunday evening in Danville, Virginia, the life of 38-year-old Randy Lamar Womack was tragically cut short. On May 14, 2023, officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 700 block of Hughes Street around 11 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Womack suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to SOVAH Health, but tragically, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The investigation into the death of the Danville man swiftly led to a
suspect. Omar Rashad Chandler, a 34-year-old resident of Danville, was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. Initially, Chandler was charged with second-degree murder and was held in the Danville City Jail without bond.
As the legal process unfolded, the charges against Omar Rashad Chandler were elevated. He was ultimately charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In May 2024, justice was served for Randy Womack as Chandler was sentenced to life in prison plus an additional eight years for the murder.
