On September 12, 2017, Tahir Mahmud, a 54-year-old store owner, was tragically shot and killed while working at his Joy Food Mart on Riverside Drive in Danville, Virginia. Mahmud, who had been running the store for ten years, was known for his kindness and dedication to his family and community. He left behind a wife and a six-year-old son. The incident occurred in the morning, and Mahmud was found shot behind the counter of his store.
