In the late evening hours of June 18, 2024, the life of 24-year-old Tasean Delvecchio Farmer was tragically cut short in a burst of violence inside a Danville, Virginia, apartment. Responding to a call of shots fired at the Woodside Village apartment complex on Piney Forest Road just before 11 p.m., police discovered Farmer suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to SOVAH Health but ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the death of the young man quickly pointed to a suspect, 32-year-old Richard Lee Wilson, Jr., also a resident of Danville. Wilson had fled the scene following the shooting, prompting a search that ended with his apprehension in neighboring North Carolina just hours later. Authorities have indicated that the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Richard Lee Wilson, Jr. now faces a series of serious charges in connection with Tasean Farmer's death. These charges include second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, use of a firearm during the commission of a violent felony, reckless handling of a firearm, and discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling. This was not Wilson's first encounter with law enforcement regarding a fatal shooting at the same apartment complex. In an earlier, separate case from July 2022, Wilson had been indicted on a first-degree murder charge, but the case was ultimately terminated in August 2023 after a key witness passed away before the trial could commence. The investigation into Tasean Farmer's death is ongoing.
