Brandon Leigh Sprayberry, an 18-year-old male from Atlanta, Texas, tragically lost his life on November 7, 2022. He was a member of the Cross Creek Cowboy Church and had served with the Queen City Volunteer Fire Department for over two years. Brandon was known for his devotion to his friends and family, always striving to keep his siblings on the right path. He was remembered for his wild stories and his "go big or go home" attitude.
On the day of his death, Brandon was found lying in the yard of a residence on the 200 block of Pecan Lane with a fatal gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Atlanta Police Department responded to the incident and arrested 19-year-old Cody Raymond Maxie Jr., who was found at the scene. Maxie was charged with manslaughter, a second-degree felony, and was booked into the Cass County Sheriff’s Office Jail Division.
The investigation into Brandon's death is ongoing, with detectives continuing to gather information. The Atlanta Police Department has encouraged anyone with information about the case to come forward and contact Detective Sgt. Newkirk.
Brandon's death has deeply affected his family, friends, and the community. He is survived by his two brothers, Damien and Daniel Bourg, and his sister, Emily Bourg, as well as his maternal grandparent, Betty Jo Lewis, and his paternal grandparents, Ted Boudreaux and Mary Dubois. His funeral services were held at Cross Creek Cowboy Church, where he was remembered fondly by all who knew him.
