Dr. Liviu Librescu, a 76-year-old Romanian-American scientist and Holocaust survivor, tragically lost his life on April 16, 2007, during the Virginia Tech shooting in Blacksburg, Virginia. Librescu, a professor of Engineering Science and Mechanics at Virginia Tech, was teaching a solid mechanics class in Norris Hall when the shooter, Seung-Hui Cho, began his rampage. Cho, a 23-year-old senior at Virginia Tech, killed 32 people and wounded 17 others before taking his own life.
