On what began as an ordinary Monday, April 16, 2007, the life of Ross Abdallah Alameddine was tragically cut short in an act of violence that shook the community of Blacksburg, Virginia, and the nation. The 20-year-old male was a sophomore at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, known to his friends and family as an intelligent, funny, and easy-going individual.
He had recently declared English as his major, with minors in French and business, reflecting his diverse interests that ranged from computer technology to language and creative expression.
That morning, Ross was in his French class in Norris Hall, a classroom building on the sprawling campus. It was there that he and several of his classmates and their instructor became victims of the deadliest school shooting in U.S. history. Another student, Seung-Hui Cho, a 23-year-old senior English major at the university, entered the building armed with two pistols and began a methodical and horrific assault. Ross was among the 32 students and faculty members who lost their lives on campus that day before the gunman took his own life.
