Juan Ramon Ortiz, a 26-year-old graduate student from Bayamón, Puerto Rico, tragically lost his life on April 16, 2007, during the Virginia Tech massacre in Blacksburg, Virginia. Ortiz was a dedicated civil engineering student who had recently married and was planning to start a family. He was known for his academic excellence, having graduated magna cum laude from the Polytechnic University of San Juan, Puerto Rico, before pursuing his master's degree at Virginia Tech.
