On December 8, 2011, Virginia Tech Police Officer Deriek W. Crouse, a 39-year-old male, was fatally shot in his patrol car while conducting a traffic stop on the Blacksburg campus of Virginia Tech. An Army veteran and a married father of five, Officer Crouse was a respected member of the law enforcement community, having served with the Virginia Tech Police Department for four years.
