On a summer day in 2007, the life of 18-year-old Maurice Thomas was tragically cut short in a violent intrusion in Henrico, Virginia. The young man was inside an apartment in the 300 block of East Beal Street on June 22nd when the unthinkable happened. At least two individuals forced their way into the residence and opened fire on the people inside.
The chaotic scene left three people shot. Another young man, 19-year-old Michael Tatum, was killed at the scene.
Maurice Thomas was gravely wounded and rushed to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and died the same day. A third victim was also shot but fortunately survived the attack.
In the years that have followed, the double homicide has remained a painful open wound for the community. The Henrico County Police Department continues to list the murders of Maurice Thomas and Michael Tatum on their roster of unsolved cases. No suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the deadly home invasion.
