Detective Michael Smith Phillips, aged 37, tragically lost his life on August 7, 2008, while conducting an undercover narcotics operation in Virginia Beach, VA. Detective Phillips was engaged in a buy-bust operation at the Green Run Shopping Center on Holland Road when he encountered two suspects.
