In the spring of 2012, the life of Markey 'Smoke' Gardner, a 37-year-old African-American man from Virginia Beach, Virginia, was tragically cut short. On the evening of April 18th, Gardner was shot and killed in a violent encounter that would leave his community in shock and his family searching for answers that remain elusive to this day.
