In the summer of 2014, a tragic series of events unfolded in Virginia Beach, Virginia, culminating in the death of 24-year-old Gilbert C. McGriff III. On July 30th, McGriff was found shot on Sierra Drive, the victim of a fatal act of gun violence that cut his life short. His family described him as a happy-go-lucky and funny individual, not the type to be involved in dangerous situations.
The investigation into McGriff's death revealed a string of armed robberies committed by a group of
individuals on the same day. Authorities ultimately made several arrests in connection with the crimes. Among those charged were Jahmon Markee Blount and Taji Blackston. The evidence indicated that McGriff was the victim of a second armed robbery carried out by this group.
In the ensuing legal proceedings, both Blount and Blackston faced multiple charges, including murder, robbery, and conspiracy. In April 2015, Jahmon Markee Blount pleaded guilty to his involvement. He was subsequently sentenced to 38 years in prison for his role in the murder and robberies. The following year, in August 2016, Taji Blackston also entered guilty pleas to second-degree murder and a host of other related charges, including robbery and firearm offenses. He was later sentenced for his part in the violent spree that led to the untimely death of Gilbert McGriff.
