In the late hours of May 8, 2019, a senseless act of violence cut short the life of 23-year-old Cole Stuart Grant, a male employee of Croc's 19th Street Bistro in Virginia Beach. The tragic incident unfolded in the parking lot of the restaurant, located in the city's 'VIBE' Creative District, shattering the evening's calm and leaving a community in mourning.
Grant was fatally shot in the head as he and his coworkers were leaving for the night.
The immediate aftermath of the shooting saw a swift response from law enforcement, who arrived to find a chaotic scene. Witnesses quickly identified a suspect who was still in the vicinity, leading to a prompt arrest just moments after the crime. The individual taken into custody was Cameron Barclift, who was 16 years old at the time of the offense. According to a detective's testimony, Barclift admitted to the shooting upon his arrest.
Investigations into the motive revealed that the shooting stemmed from a brief and seemingly trivial argument. Barclift and his friends were reportedly in the parking lot when Grant and his colleagues were getting into a truck to leave.
