Christopher Cummings, a 20-year-old student at Old Dominion University (ODU) and nephew of the late U.S. Representative Elijah Cummings, was tragically shot and killed on June 10, 2011, in his off-campus home in Norfolk, Virginia. The incident occurred in the 800 block of West 42nd Street, where Cummings lived with his roommate, Jake Carey. During the attack, Carey was also shot multiple times but survived his injuries.
