In the early afternoon of a late February day, the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of a Norfolk neighborhood, leaving a young man's life cut tragically short. On February 27, 2021, 19-year-old TroQuan S. Martin was shot and killed in the 500 block of Timothy Avenue. When police arrived at the scene around 12:35 p.m., they found Martin suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.
He was pronounced deceased at the location.
The incident was a triple shooting, with two other men, aged 22 and 23, also sustaining injuries. These two men were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment and were expected to recover. A neighbor who witnessed the event described seeing someone sitting and smoking a cigarette before being shot and then observing another individual across the way who continued to fire, even appearing to reload.
In a turn of events, one of the injured men was identified as the alleged perpetrator. James C. Wilson, 23, was arrested in connection with the shooting. Following an investigation, Wilson was charged with second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. After being treated for his injuries at the hospital, authorities stated he would be transported to the Norfolk City Jail. The motive and the specific circumstances that led to the shooting have not been publicly released by detectives.
