On the night of September 2, 2011, in the Bridle Creek apartment complex in Virginia Beach, Virginia, the life of 27-year-old Antone D. Brehon, a Black male, was tragically cut short. Brehon was fatally shot in the 1500 block of Halter Drive following a robbery and a subsequent altercation. The events that led to his death began approximately two hours earlier when a robbery occurred at the same location, setting the stage for the violent confrontation that would ultimately claim his life.
The investigation into Brehon's murder led to the identification and arrest of two individuals. Jordan Jamale Austin, who was 21 years old at the time, was apprehended with the assistance of the Chesapeake SWAT team. He faced a multitude of charges, including first-degree murder, robbery, aggravated malicious wounding, conspiracy, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The second suspect, 18-year-old George Gay, was also charged with Brehon's murder. At the time the charges were brought against him, Gay was already in custody at the Virginia Beach Correctional Facility for his involvement in a separate robbery.
The legal process that followed brought a measure of justice for Antone Brehon and his family. Jordan Jamale Austin was found guilty of first-degree murder, robbery, aggravated malicious wounding, two counts of conspiracy, and three counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. For his crimes, Austin was sentenced to a total of 73 years in prison, with 30 of those years suspended, leaving him with 43 years to serve. This conviction was the result of a thorough prosecution that presented the evidence linking him directly to the robbery and fatal shooting of Antone Brehon.
