In the early morning hours of August 2, 2013, the life of 21-year-old Jaquan Marquise Brown, a Black male from Hampton, Virginia, was cut short by gunfire. The incident unfolded in the vicinity of North King Street, where police responded to calls of shots fired just before 3 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Brown in a grassy lot, suffering from at least one gunshot wound to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
