On a Saturday afternoon in Hampton, Virginia, a family visit turned into a scene of deadly violence. Lawrence Antoine Fuller, a 44-year-old man, was at the Colonial Pembroke apartments on East Pembroke Avenue on May 26, 2018, to see his daughter. An argument erupted between Fuller and his daughter's 23-year-old boyfriend, Miquel Johnston. The heated discussion escalated, tragically culminating in Johnston allegedly brandishing a handgun and shooting Fuller multiple times.
A neighbor
reported hearing two gunshots and then witnessing Fuller run out of the apartment before collapsing. The neighbor rushed to his aid, applying pressure to an exit wound in his back in an attempt to save his life. Emergency services were called to the apartment complex around 1:36 p.m. and transported Fuller to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Police arrived on the scene and quickly identified all parties involved. Miquel Johnston was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and shooting into an occupied building. Court documents later revealed that the altercation that led to the shooting was a domestic dispute that turned violent.
